"Lattimore, More, More"
That is the new chant in Columbia, SC.
Its early but I'm finding it hard to contain my excitement. Before I get into the possibilities of where our offense can go I want to shed some light on the type of personality Lattimore has on the field as well as with reporters.
Yes the runs and stats have been very impressive but it goes further than that with him. The kid runs the ball for 10 yds and breaks 5 tackles in the process and never flexes or talks trash, he never even looks at the players from the other team. He is in a sprint back to the huddle before the huddle is even started. He gets up, after he is finally brought down, and acts like he was supposed to do what he just did. Never even a splash of excitement. Even after a TD, he slows down enough for the guys around him to pat him on the shoulder pads while he is on his way back to the sidelines. I am telling you it is the damnedest thing. It is strange seeing a player make some of the plays that he makes and not show a shred of excitement afterwards.
Apparently Rambo, one of the UGA defenders, made a comment after the game about Lattimore not being that tough of a RB and that they just missed too many tackles. I watched Lattimore's interview during the weekly press conference today and a reporter asked him about the comment that Rambo made. Lattimore cracked a little smile and said "Thats their fault" refering to the missed tackles comment. Then his facial expression went serious and he said "but Georgia has a really good defense". How many players do you know that would have complimented the same defense that just insulted them and gave them no credit after a 182 yd game? Marcus Lattimore is one of them.
And now the many possibilities of our offense. If Lattimore can stay healthy.. look out. Teams will start to stack the box to stop him. They will stack the box and that will prevent the double coverage on Alshon. We also have Gurley, Barnes, Moore, and Ace Sanders that need to be covered. It will keep fresh legs for our previous starting RBs in Miles, Maddox, and Giles. The defense will be fresh because they won't see the field as much with a grinding running attack by the offense. The defense only saw the field for 46 plays against uga lol. With the defense not on the field it keeps Gilmore fresh to run a couple of plays out of his offensive package a game.
In a perfect world this would all be true. And you know what, I think the Gamecocks may finally have their perfect world this year and play for the SEC Championship.
